Rebuilding All Cars Stop Here 請在此站停車

All Cars Stop Here 請在此站停車

00 Scale Hong Kong Tramways microlayout.

Latest News: After seven shows in seven months the layout suffered some what was thought to be irreparable damage to the baseboard, thankfully not as bad as originally thought. half of the track has been taken up and the crossover scrapped with a view to two parallel tracks so there will be always at least one or two cars running at any time! The rebuilt layout will incorporate a footbridge as a vision block to the fiddle tracks.

On Friday 22/11 Bachmann Cars 56 and 400 helped out on a friend's layout in Bury St Edmunds as part of the town's Christmas Fayre (4-days event attracting 120,000 across the country)! Both cars suffered superficial body damage and now repaired.

It's too cold to work in the garage so not much more will happen until the Spring. Besides, New Walmington Pier's exhibition year starts in February.

All Cars Stop Here 請在此站停車

00 Scale Hong Kong Tramways microlayout.

Latest News: Having bought one of the Scale Model Scenery Micro-Layout laser-cut baseboards for my On Track Plant Depot project, I have taken a liking to it and decided that at 730mm x 209mm wide (28.75ins x 8.22ins) this type of base would be ideal for the new Hong Kong Tramway micro-layout, this type of baseboard is lighter, small and a lot stronger than the current board. So in the New Year I will order one and then I will be in a fix - simultaneously building two micro-layouts both the same sizes at the same time!!!

Here's one completed baseboard and the All Cars Stop Here 請在此站停車 track plan adapted to fit.

All Cars Stop Here 請在此站停車

OO scale Hong Kong Tramways micro-layout.

After seven shows in seven months, 'All Cars Stop Here 請在此站停車' took a lot of punishment and the baseboard couldn't cope. In the words of the Monty Python Dead Parrot Sketch, It is no more, it has ceased to be!

A new laser cut baseboard produced by Scale Model Scenery (www.scalemodelscenery.co.uk) 730mm x 209mm wide (28.75ins x 8.22ins) was assembled and the new All Cars Stop Here 請在此站停車 has been mocked up and can accommodate two trams on each track shuttling back and forth. Bachmann HK cars have more or less constant speeds. The exact position of the tram stop will be determined by the final size of the footbridge.

I'll be away in Scotland for Christmas so nothing will happen now until January and this time I will take my time over it - even if it takes me all year!!

The new 'All Cars Stop Here 請在此站停車' mocked up to give the overall idea of trams serving a business district tram stop.

Thanks Mark.
Even in its raw state the new All Cars Stop Here looks pretty good!!
I’m Scots born (from Aberdeen but grew up in Essex) so this Christmas ‘back home’ is my first Scottish Christmas since childhood. We’re driving from Suffolk via West Midlands to visit a cousin, then overnight at Scotch Corner, and Edinburgh on the Monday afternoon for five days before driving home.
Most shops in Scotland are open on Boxing Day (always have done so)! So Harburn Hobbies model shop in Edinburgh will be open!!

Between Christmas and New Year and today in the garage:
First stage ground build up to sleeper level on New Year's Eve.

Electrics completed and tested on 05/01/20. Because I am so ham-fisted with electrics, even simple electrics I usually have a eureka moment when something I wired up works!!

Now realised that because of 28.75ins board length I can only run one tram on each track! Therefore will re-design tram stop set-up to staggered shelters.

Update 25/01/2020:

Ground cover now flush with rail level due to two layers of thick card and track inserts added.

Layout mocked up with Bachmann Scenecraft offices and trial fit of Hornby Railways R071 Footbridge - I’m surprised that no model manufacturer does a modern footbridge.

Then a test run with two trams
