All Cars Stop Here - OO scale Hong Kong influenced micro-layout. has now grown up enough to cease to be a workbench item as it is now beginning to look like a tram layout!

Just to add streetlamps, around 100 figures, and Chinese banners, but they can wait until my return from Hong Kong in January.

'All Cars Stop Here' made its first public viewing at my local Tramway & Light Railway Society Group meeting at Ipswich Transport Museum along with Peter Boyt's 'Crickey - It's a shed (He forgot the shed!) and Phil Carver' magnetically connected N scale trolleybuses and trams. The real star of the day was the latest restoration of the museum's Cambridge Horse Tram 7.

4mm scale OO Hong Kong Tramways influenced microlayout

I was in Hong Kong on 11th January as part of my Shanghai - Singapore cruise and had an amazing time riding the 4-wheel double-deck trams.

Been back home for a week and now adding finishing touches to this layout with an end-scene of the Y junction at Sheung Wan.

Attached photos of actual HK trams and my layout are captioned.

Hi Dave

Looks good like the way the end scene blends in.

Is the roundel at the end of the layout a Hong Kong tram stop?

regards John

First show out

My 'All Cars Stop Here 所有的汽车停在这里' microlayout made its first public appearance at the Stowmarket Railway Club Train and Model Collectors Fair on 3rd March 2019.
It received a lot of compliments and for me it was my first exhibition since the sudden death of my friend Debbie, although she saw it being built, she never saw it completed and despite a few tough moments hitting me, I managed the day pretty well.

The public and fellow modeller reactions were:

1. There's not enough figures to represent a typical Hong Kong street, it needs to be crowded. - 50+ figures added.

2. The concreted area is too bright. - First repainted track colour which didn't look right, the received a photo from HK and another repaint in grey has improved it.

3. Front edge of board needs tidying. - Removed the black vinyl tape facing and painted edging grey.

OO 1:76 scale Hong Kong Tramways micro-layout

Have tidied up the crossover with a grey concrete base and touched up the sleepers and crossing timbers in black which is typical of new track. Have done a new set of photos for the www.hongkongtramlayout.webs.com website.

Ever had a 'Eureka Moment' or a 💡moment?

I've been racking my brains trying to get the best out my 'All Cars Stop Here 所有的汽车停在这里' OO scale Hong Kong Tram micro layout.
Model Tram layouts don't have that much operating potential, but following my 'Eureka Moment' a few days ago on my 'All Cars Stop Here 所有的汽车停在这里' where I decided that a service disruption adds operating interest (of sorts) so here is my 'modus operandi'

Engineering works or a service disruption has resulted in trams being stopped short and reversed back into service on this microlayout. The front (westbound) tram shelter is empty and used for alighting passengers and the back (eastbound) tram shelter is overcrowded with passengers waiting to board the tram that has reversed.

Works Car 400 starts and ends the sequence with arriving at the temporary crossover site and stabling then leaving after all the passengers cars have left.

Safety Training Car 888 is static and is just an 'ornament' on the layout!

Nor do I get backache operating it now!!!

The accompanying photos explain all.... .

Was wondering what to do with the front right of this microlayout as it had a static car there and nothing else. The static Safety Training Car 888 now has a towing mate in the form of an Asian Bus Models China Motor Bus Tow Truck.
