CMX Track Cleaner - What you need to get started using it on OO Gauge...

Recommended Posts

While its not the cheapest of items, it runs a bit over US$120, the CMX Track Cleaning Car is one of the best options for cleaning large layouts. It is an American product made of brass with Kadee couplings. This video gives a quick intro to the CMX, shows what locos I use to run it and a run down on what you'll need to get started:

I have owned one for some three or so years and have to say its the very best rail cleaner I have ever come across.

I use IPA (Isopropyl Alcohol) 99.9% version in my CMX and push it around in front of one of my largest locos - in my case this is often a Bachmann class 37.

I push it rather than pull it because it cleans the rails in front of the loco rather than the loco struggling to get power from dirty rails if it were to pull the CMX.

The CMX is well worth the cost and really is only around the cost of a larger UK loco.
