Model Photo of the Month Rules
Rules in affect from the April 2012 competition.
Modified/Updated: 13th January 2013

Hey all.

Here are the rules for the Model Photo of the Month.
The MPOTM works like it always has done. Enter a model-related photo for entry that has been taken during that month

Section A - Photo Entries:

1) Photos must be related to modelling in some way. This can take the form of, but not limited to, model trains, aircraft, ships, buildings, kit-builds, scratch builds, RC related models etc.
2) Photos must have been taken during the competition month to be eligible for entering.
3) Photos must be taken by you. Using other people’s work is not allowed – regardless of how well you know them or how close you may be. However, if you have a photo that was taken in collaboration with someone, then the photo is permitted.
4) Each user may enter ONE photo per competition. However, you are permitted to change it as many times as you like up until the end of the month.
5) If an entrant wins the competition, they may not enter the next month.

6) In exception to rule A-5, if there are two or more joint winners for a competition, they may enter the next month if the organiser allows it. HOWEVER, should either entrant win a second time, either by themselves or in another joint win, they may not enter for the 3rd month.

Section B - Photo Quality
1) Photos must be at least 800x600 pixels in size. Photos under this size will be rejected. However, if there is a valid reason, such as a panoramic photo just under the height limit, please ask and an exception may be made. Upload the best and highest quality you can! Photos that are 800 pixels in at least Height or Width will be most likely permitted.
2) Very fuzzy, blurry or out of focus shots will be rejected. Unless it is done for an artistic affect, that works, then photos will be rejected. We want good quality photos. Something just snapped on a phone when you were running down a platform will not cut it. No excuses.
3) Snap-shots from video are not allowed. Unless your camera takes fantastic quality video that you can take snap-shots from in very high quality (which is very unlikely unless you are filming from a DSLR).
4) Photos from phones are permitted providing the quality is of a good standard (See rule B.3)

Section C - Further Rules
1) Photoshopping is not allowed. No excuse. This is a photo competition, not an editing one.
2) In relation to rule C.1, basic colour-correction is permitted. Such as black/white, sepia, and colour/contrast modification. If you’re unsure, please submit the photo and ask us if it’s passable. Just make sure you have a copy of your un-modified photo backed-up!
3) Watermarks are permitted on photos provided they are small and unintuitive.
4) If you are entering a photo of someone else’s work, be in a model railway or a remote control plane, make sure you have permission to enter it. We are not responsible for moderating permission but we don’t want unhappy modellers complaining about their work being put in a competition without their approval.
5) During voting, users may not vote for themselves. Users found to be voting for themselves will have their vote removed and possibly their entry too.

May I ask the reasoning behind rule A2?

This could result in the only photos being submitted are of the current layout, which may have been already featured in the WIP section of MRL, thus reducing the variety of possible submissions...

What is wrong with submitting an image of a piece of work that is not longer in the author' s possession? Surely the most important criteria are own work and own image?

Just asking........

Hey Tim. I'll be happy to answer you there. The reason is because photos have to be taken for that specific month. In this case currently, photos have to be taken in November:)

However, the photo doesn't have to be your own work. The only requirements in that sense is that the entrant has taken the photo and it is modelling related. This was created long before I joined, let alone became photo of the month mod. We've just stuck with it since then as a best photo for November. TPotM however runs differently as it is theme based.

Any comments, suggestions,or feed back though, please do let me know so I can possibly adjust things in the future and improve the competition.

Hope that answers your question Tim ^_^

But anyway, matters not what state your layout is in. In fact, it's open to any form of modelling. So you need not be concerned if It's a WIP or anything. If the photo is uploaded elsewhere, there is nothing wrong with that either =)

Texting on the train now so apologies.for any mistakes.

All the best!
