How To Find The Chiltern Railways Class 68s?

4 posts in this topic

Question - I'm well aware that Chiltern Railways have passenger services out of London Marylebone hauled by Class 68s with DVTs on. I'd LOVE to see or even ride one of these.

However, I'm scouring the timetables out of Marylebone on RTT and I can't find anything. Even services that are shown on diagrams I've found for the loco-hauled services are showing on RTT as being Class 158 Super Sprinters...?!

I'm a bit confused - am I missing something here? Is RTT throwing out a red herring? Chiltern Railways are supposedly running these services until 10th December, did they can them early?

Hi Adam,

Realtimetrains isn't that good when it comes to finding what's actually on the service. The paths are timed for certain trains, but they tend to be generic for the max speed of whatever train can operate on it.

The current timetable, up to 10th December 2017, has the following services operated by 68 + DVT push pull sets:

Monday to Friday

RIGHT! Thanks for that Jack. So RTT was throwing a red herring? I know sometimes they can be quite generic - just listing an 'electric multiple unit' or 'diesel locomotive', and possibly they haven't caught up with what is hauling those services now? Like perhaps before they were Super Sprinters, and RTT hasn't updated to list them now as loco-hauled?

If there's no alteration on the timings, there's no need to change it from DMU to Loco and stock.
